INTRODUCTION

Who doesn't watch TV, listen to the favourite channel on FM, read newspapers or surf the net? 
Do all of them have anything in common?
Let's discover the common link and see how advertisements  play an important role in the choices we make?


TASK

Once you are done with your project, you will realize that you know: 
  • What is media?
  • How ads are made?
  • What role does media play in our lives?
  • How brand names impact our choices as a consumer?
  • How ads have a social appeal/emotional appeal?
  • Identify media's link with democracy

We all know that media describes the  various ways through which we communicate in society. It refers to all means of communication. eg: TV, Newspapers, radio etc. 

Now check this link out:  





ACTIVITY 1:

-> INDIVIDUAL OR PAIR ACTIVITY; Digital presentation

Now each one of you have to choose any one social issue prevalent in the society. Design a poster with an aim to spread message for the society.


ACTIVITY 2

-> AD MAKING

You are asked to design a fictitious product, give it a unique name and think of its features. 

Now all will be asked to make a commercial ad appealing to a specific group of people and you can decide for yourself or look at some of the sample options:

 Option 1 - sell a mobile phone(price range 900€- 1100€)

Option 2 -  sell a branded watch (from 10000€-12000€ price range)

Option 3 - sell a tablet (price range 400- 500€)

Option 4 - make an ad to spread health awareness 

Option 5 - make an ad to ban any social issue 

The target audience should be able to related and connected with your ad. 

Before you present the ad, you must write down your ideas/script/jingle/slogan/sketch on paper after working in groups. 

Once you are done with your presentation the digital presentation needs to be submitted to the teacher, please share it through online tools.

(Before you begin  with this activity, kindly note government can at times prevent media from publishing a story, this is called censorship)

Now form groups of maximum three or four.

You know many different names of products like shampoo, watches, mobilephones and many more. 

Now your team has to choose a product and you you will be asked to think of the most famous brand of that product and what differentiates it with other brands available in the market and also give examples of other brands available.

Finally you are going to create your own brand, with a unique brand name and logo
Present your ideas to the class in digital formato as you desire.

This entire project as a whole constitutes of 10 marks.
You are being evaluated for each activity individually.

  1. Media and advertising are a pervasive presence in the lives of young people.
  2. When ads are made, the target audience holds a very important role. 
  3. The media which broadcasts news shapes are viewpoint about the happenings around us. 
  4. Ads don't usually enable equality. 
  5. Brand names define the product.
